Kimberly dawn Bynum was a high school teacher in Alabama she was indicted on felony charges in 2011 for her alleged sexual relationship with a 17-year-old high school senior she was 29 years old at the time now the age of consent in Alabama is 16 but educators can't date the people they teach until they reach the age of 19 so you wanna know what punishment she's facing 20 years in prison so course the question is does the law makes sense now look I understand that oftentimes there's a good reason to have a the laws that have to do with the power struggle so for example you know laws against bosses dating their employees or teachers again stating their students so on and so forth I think they're all make sense but there's also a part of me that thinks if they're all age maybe it should be dealt with on a school by school basis or on up company by company basis and maybe not necessarily legal action being taken but the bigger but question i think is should a 29-year-old be in trouble for dating a 17-year-old now again the regular age if consent in Alabama is 16 and if it wasn't student and teacher it wouldn't be an issue at all and the punishments 20 me years I mean it's really long time it's a harsh punishment for something like that so maybe I'm gonna be slightly controversial here but look I'm of the opinion that 16 should be the legal age for everything by Tom talking everything should be able to fight for your country should be able to have a beer should be able to buy cigarettes should be able to legally buy I think all drug should be legal right so up being that that's the case I don't think this is a crime I don't think this is something law enforcement as to get involved in now of course again well understand the power struggle I get that and if each individual school wants to say the students candy teachers or bosses candidate employees at other businesses I get that in your free to do that on an on a case by case basis at an individual level right but there's a final twist in the story she ended up marrying the kid so the charges were dropped but see this I think proves my point further because let's say for example was a 12-year-old kid and 29-year-old teacher then everybody would say okay no no not allowed and even if you weren't all they're gonna get married everybody would still go what the fuck you can't hurry twelve-year-old that's crazy you can do that right so the fact that upon hearing that they were getting married everybody's like oh well you should drop the charges that shows you that there was nothing wrong with the ages in the first place and shoulda never been a criminal case
