Relationship Advice ow to Stop Arguing

How do you put out a fire? You use a fire extinguisher. But how to stop an argument? This is Dr. Paul, author of Boomer Girls! A Boomer Woman's Guide to Men & Dating, and host of Ask Dr. Paul. All right, you're into an argument mode. One or the other of you is going to have to change that scene. Now, it can go from bad to worse if you let it; if alcohol is involved it probably will, or you can change that mode. There's only one way to change that, and that is to refer back to something the two of you enjoyed. One of, one of the persons has to say look wait, do you remember how close we were when we went to such and such park that day? Do you remember how close we were when we walked down the beach the first time in the moonlight? Why are we doing this? Ask questions. The best way to stop an argument is to start asking questions. Blaming, nailing each other, angry; that is not going to stop the argument; because as the Greeks said, "a man set against his will is of the same opinion still", all right? And that's important to remember. It won't change. You cannot compromise an argument, but you can ask questions to refer you to an earlier time. That's the way to do it. This is Dr. Paul. May your fantasies of today be your realities of tomorrow.
