Relationship & Dating Advice ntroducing Relationships to Parents

Hi, I'm Donna Barnes. I'm a life and relationship coach and owner of NY Dating Coach in New York City. In this clip we'll talk about when should you introduce 'em to your parents. Well, holidays are always a sticky time and if you've met somebody new right before a big holiday it's probably better not to introduce them for that holiday. Each go off and do your own thing and come back to each other because if you bring your family into a relationship too soon, especially if your family's a little bit wacky like families can be, then it could destroy the relationship before it ever really gets going. So if you're going to have to travel and take a trip to see your parents make sure you've been together for quite a long time because traveling for the first time together can bring all sorts of problems. That bring your parents into it at the same time can definitely be sticky. And don't stay at your parents house if you travel to meet them. Explain to them that you'd be much more comfortable staying at a friends house or staying at a hotel, rather than staying under their roof when they're first meeting this person in your life. That adds an extra level of pressure that they really don't need so, if you decide that this person's somebody that's really important to you then ask them to meet your family, that's a big part of who you are.
